Non-standard leave policy
1. Exclusions
What does this policy not cover?
- Standard leave. For normal leave, all you need to do is submit it on Remote, and it'll go into the list for approvals. It is always good practice if you're working on projects to check in with your manager and your project lead, to make sure anything relevant is handed over. OET always tries to accommodate normal leave requests wherever possible. You do not need to provide a reason for taking normal leave.
- Any other types of leave not mentioned in this policy document.
2. Carry-over leave
- Accrued days not used during the calendar year during which they were earned do not all expire at the end of that calendar year.
- If your country's labor law has no mandated carry-over leave, then OET's policy of up to 5 days of carry-over leave applies. Under the OET policy, this should be used within the following calendar year.
- If your country's labor law does have mandated carry-over leave and related terms, then that legislation naturally replaces the OET policy.
- You do not need to submit carry-over leave on Remote in a special category. It is assigned one automatically when it rolls into the new calendar year, and when you submit leave, the system will take the carry-over total into account.
Important note: Sometimes there are errors on Remote for automatic carry-over leave days. Please ensure you check your accrual total near the end of the calendar year and make a note of it. Then, make sure in the new calendar year that any applicable days have carried over in the correct category on Remote. If not, you can email our People Team, and they will query it with Remote.
3. Brought-forward leave
- If you wish to take leave during one calendar year that has yet to be earned, because it forms part of the next calendar year, this is possible.
- If your country's labor law has no terms relating to this, then OET's policy of up to 5 days of brought-forward leave applies.
- If your country's labor law does have terms relating to this, then that legislation naturally replaces the OET policy.
- You do not need to submit brought-forward leave on Remote in a special category. It is automatically taken into account for the following calendar year's leave allocation.
4. Time in lieu
- If, for example, you have business travel to attend an event that requires working on a weekend day, please submit this as weekend work on Remote. If that category is not available to you, please submit it as time in lieu, and specify it's for working over a weekend.
- If you choose to work on a public holiday, you can simply submit a different day as time in lieu on Remote, and put in the notes which day it relates to.
- If your country's labor law does have terms relating to this, then that legislation naturally replaces the OET policy.
- This leave category on Remote can also be used for other kinds of leave that does not have its own category. Please specify whatever details you deem appropriate in the notes.
